Job Opportunity: Computer Software Developer for Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball


Job Title: Software Developer, Baseball IT

Report to: Senior Director, IT

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about being part of a collaborative environment with fellow baseball enthusiasts and working on software projects that have an impact on the field and in the front office.

In this role, you’ll use your problem-solving and coding skills to design, code, and maintain software solutions that enable baseball operations personnel to translate insights into actionable insights used by decision makers.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work with baseball operations stakeholders to gather requirements for new software solutions and features on existing projects
  • Help turn project requirements into designs and gather feedback on current and future UI/UX flows
  • Create user-oriented solutions using appropriate front-end frameworks and libraries
  • Create and maintain the necessary APIs for current and future solutions
  • Maintain and upgrade currently used frameworks and dependencies
  • Query data and create views, tables, and stored procedures
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and frameworks that could improve current and future software efforts
  • Stay current on trends in baseball analytics, scouting, and player development to facilitate communication between development and baseball staff
  • Help new employees integrate computer systems
  • Serve as a resource for development assistance for small IT projects

The technical requirements

  • 3+ years of development experience
  • Experience with the feature development lifecycle
    • Collection requirements
    • Execution
    • Testing and deployment
    • Support and iteration
  • Experience with Angular or other common web frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
  • Experience developing and using REST APIs
  • Experience with relational databases. Query data, write views, etc.

  • DevOps
  • Project management

Works most closely with: Baseball IT data engineering and developers, baseball operations personnel including coaches, front office, scouts, sports performance
