Bettor Nets Huge $43,000 Win with Incredible Final Four Parlay
Betting
Every sports bettor dreams of a payday like this. One lucky bettor had his full-court heave swish through the hoop when he turned a $25 ticket into $43,000 recently.
The bettor placed a four-team parlay that correctly predicted all four winners of their regions in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. That’s quite the feat, considering most people this year had trouble predicting more than one team correctly into the Final Four of their March Madness brackets.
What’s even more impressive is that this bettor’s ticket included North Carolina, which was a huge longshot at +2000 to win the East Region, seeing as they were the No. 8 seed in that bracket.
The Longshots He Picked
Millions of people fill out March Madness brackets every year for the NCAA tournament. Then, many people will take some of those predictions and place futures wagers on teams to make the Final Four or win the men’s basketball tournament.
Some even throw a few dollars here and there on longshot wagers, hoping they come through for huge paydays. One relatively popular parlay bet is to select the winners of each of the four regions.
The payout odds can be pretty big for these wagers, especially if a lower seed is able to make it. And that’s exactly what happened in this case.
Kansas had relatively short odds of +200 since they were the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region, and one of the favorites to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament from the start. Both Villanova (+390) and Duke (+460) had relatively short odds, too, as the No. 2 seeds in the South and West regions, respectively.
The team that surprised many, and pushed the payout of this one particular wager so high, was North Carolina. As the No. 8 seed in the East region, UNC had longshot odds of +2000 to make the Final Four.
On the way to making the Final Four, UNC had to upset No. 1 seed Baylor (93-86) and No. 4 seed UCLA (73-66). Then, UNC had to stop the Cinderella story of the tournament, No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s (69-49) in the Elite Eight game. Once they completed that win, this lucky bettor turned their $25 wager into an astonishing $43,218.
Final Four Odds
It’s very possible that this particular bettor has some other action on one of these teams to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. If he did, he’s likely to add to his already impressive win total — especially if it’s UNC and they end up winning.
Once the Final Four teams were set, Duke opened as the odds-on favorite to win the tournament at +150. Kansas was next at +190, with Villanova (+450) and UNC (+550) following them.
Heated rivals Duke and UNC will face off in one of the Final Four games, with Duke currently the 4.5-point favorite. Despite meeting tons of times in the regular season and ACC Tournament, Duke and UNC have never faced off in the NCAA Tournament. It’s especially fitting, considering Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski will be retiring after the tournament.
In the other Final Four game, Kansas was installed as 4-point favorites over Villanova.
