Los Angeles Dodgers Huge World Series Favorites for MLB Season
Betting
The 2025 MLB season begins on Thursday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are widely expected to win the World Series come this fall — at least according to the oddsmakers.
The Dodgers have been installed as the odds-on favorite to win the Fall Classic after another season of adding to an already-impressive lineup. Their odds of 5-1 are nearly double that of the next closest team, the Toronto Blue Jays, who sit at 9-1.
Just because they are the favorite doesn’t mean they are the most popular pick among sports bettors, though.
Why the Dodgers Are the Favorites
It’s really no surprise that the Dodgers enter the 2025 MLB season as the odds-on favorite to win the World Series title. Even though they didn’t capture the World Series title last year— or even win the National League pennant — they have been one of the most successful teams over the last few years.
The Dodgers were one of only three teams to win at least 100 games last year. Their 106 wins trailed only the 107 won by the San Francisco Giants. The Tampa Bay Rays also won 100 games exactly in 2025.
The Dodgers led MLB with 43 regular season wins in 2020 — a season shortened by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their 106 wins were the most in the National League in 2019 as well.
This offseason, while the Dodgers lost closer Kenley Jansen to free agency, they also added two big-name players to their roster — closer Craig Kimbrel in a trade with the Chicago White Sox and first baseman Freddie Freeman on a free-agent deal from the Atlanta Braves.
Freeman especially adds to an already potent lineup that easily could lead the league in runs. This is why the Dodgers are considered the best team in Major League Baseball, at least on paper, entering this season.
Bettors Like the New York Mets
Despite the Dodgers being the favorite to win the World Series — and a very public team, too — the team with the highest number of futures wagers to win the World Series is actually the New York Mets.
The Mets have odds of 14-1 to win the World Series at most sportsbooks, placing them seventh on the list behind the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Houston Astros (10-1), White Sox (11-1), the defending champion Braves (11-1) and the New York Yankees (12-1).
The Mets added a lot this off-season, too. Their lineup welcomes outfielders Starling Marte (from the Miami Marlins) and Mark Canha (from the Oakland Athletics) as well as infielder Eduardo Escobar (from the Arizona Diamondbacks). They also welcome back Robinson Cano from suspension.
The Mets made a huge splash in free agency when they signed starting pitcher Max Scherzer as well.
The question marks surrounding the team, though, come in the rotation, where Scherzer is dealing with a nagging injury and star pitcher Jacob deGrom has already been shut down for a full month at least.
Still, bettors are flocking to the counters to put their money on the Mets to win the World Series. It should make for an exciting 2025 MLB season.
