Requests for a casino win/loss statement can be made through a player's account portal or in-person at the cage. Player documentation is still required to substantiate a gambling loss claim: the statement itself is not proof on its own.
How to Get It
Many casinos provide annual win/loss statements automatically through player loyalty programs, online account portals, or as an option in-person at a player club desk.
In-person requests at the property may be made by presenting your player card and a government-issued ID at a players club desk, main cage, or similar service desk. The Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel, for example, allows requests at its Players Club booth, by website download, by email, or by phone. Some casinos, like Winstar, offer print options for the statement at select self-service kiosks in the casino.

To receive a win/loss statement, a completed request form and possibly a W-9 must be provided. The original paperwork can be mailed to the casino, as allowed by the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel. Request by email typically requires a player ID and other identifiers for verification. Several casinos now let players access statements directly through their casino card account portals on a self-service basis.

What It Is Good For
A casino win/loss statement is a helpful starting point for assembling the gambling win and loss figures required by the IRS for tax returns. Form W-2G, filed by the casino or gaming entity when an individual's gambling winnings amount to a reportable threshold, is not the only source of guidance. As the IRS advises, the gamer must have the amount of total winnings and losses plus any information on a W-2G or other documentation showing the win/loss figures. The individual must be able to provide receipts, tickets, statements, or other records showing the amount of both winnings and losses.
While a casino win/loss statement organizes that data, it is not a substitute proof on its own. The IRS requires the gamer’s individual records to support a claim. The IRS says players must be able to provide documentation showing the amount of gambling winnings and losses from gambling transactions that are subject to tax or other information about gambling winnings reported on Form W-2G.
How Long It Takes
Casino win/loss statements may be received instantly if the gamer has the right access: at a self-service kiosk, through an online player account, or via in-person service. Recent transactions are typically available. However, in many cases, statements must be generated and may take up to a few days to a few weeks.
While casinos that issue them automatically typically provide casino win/loss data in January, some game play may not be tracked in detail by the casino. Casinos that do allow same-day requests may require completed forms or verification conversations before releasing the records to the gamer. Some casinos may not track individual visitation and play records in a way that supports win/loss statements, and may require additional verification through player club visits.
Land-Based Casinos vs. Online Operators
Casino win/loss statements can be accessed at both land-based casinos and online casino sites. However, the process and identification requirements may differ.
At land-based casinos, players typically need to have an account and identification. In-person requests require a visit to a players club desk, main cage, or similar service desk with a player card and government-issued ID. While some casinos allow printing at self-service kiosks, other request requests may need to be made by email or in person, complete with forms and tax compliance forms.
Online casinos, however, often allow players to access win/loss statements through their account portal, without the need for a visit. Online operators may require players to have an account and any credentials established with the online wallet. Gambling documentation may be requested with account verification.
What the IRS Still Wants
Casino win/loss statements can be a helpful starting point, but they are still only part of the documentation an individual needs to claim gambling losses on their tax return. The IRS requires that individuals maintain receipts, tickets, statements, or other records showing both winnings and losses. A win/loss statement is only one piece of that documentation.
The IRS states clearly that "to deduct gambling losses, you must be able to provide receipts, tickets, statements, or other records that show the amount of both your winnings and losses." This means that regardless of whether a casino provides a win/loss statement, an individual still needs to keep their own records of gambling activity.
