Atlantic City Casino may change the gambling industry with a new style of wagering – where players can wager on themselves. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa announced that it would organize the first such contest in March.
What’s at Stake?
According to New Jersey officials, although many companies offer real-money skill-based gambling, this program will be the first based on physical skill and offered by a licensed US casino.
For a $20 buy-in, the competitors will contest in 90-second rounds for the right to play in the final round-of-16. The free shots throughout each round will be taken from a 15-foot distance with a professional regulation-size basketball.
The players must be over 21 old and required to hold a valid club card of the Borgata casino to participate in the contest. The top 4 winners will split $10,000 and the winner will get $5,000. The tournament is set to take place on the 21st of March.
A Milestone in Gambling History
This gambling hybrid comes as the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement continues to adapt and evolve gambling through its ”New Jersey First” enterprise, which aims to innovate and introduce new gambling formats before any other US state.
Joe Lupo, Borgata Casino’s vice president, believes that his casino’s contest will not only be the first of its kind but will, in fact, lead to an industry uptake of such gambling. And it seems that it really will – the American Gaming Association have already welcomed this Borgata Casino move.
